Dear Wyandanch Families,

I am writing to provide an update regarding the carbon monoxide issue that occurred at LFH earlier today and the steps taken to ensure a safe return to in-person instruction.

Following the incident, the district worked closely with our facilities team and an outside boiler service company to identify the source of the issue. It was determined that a mechanical malfunction involving one of the building's boilers caused an improper fuel-to-air mixture, resulting in elevated carbon monoxide levels.

Out of an abundance of caution, the district temporarily shut down the boiler system while the issue was investigated and necessary repairs were completed. This precautionary measure, along with the time needed to assess the system and confirm its safe operation, prompted our decision to transition to remote learning for the day. We also closed MLK as a precaution due to the building's connection to LFH.

We are pleased to report that the mechanical issue has been resolved, the necessary repairs have been completed, and both boilers are now operating properly without concern.

As a result, both schools will reopen tomorrow, and all scholars and staff will return to their regular in-person schedules.

We recognize that today's unexpected disruption may have caused concern and inconvenience for our families, and we sincerely appreciate your patience, understanding and flexibility. Please know that the health and safety of our students and staff remain our highest priorities. We will continue to closely monitor our building systems and take all necessary precautions to maintain a safe and healthy learning environment.
