Wyandanch Fifth Graders Connect Through Creative Mad Libs Collaboration

Kelley Stennett’s fifth grade class at Wyandanch’s Lafrancis Hardiman Elementary School, along with the school’s library media specialist Pam Calandra, recently participated in a Mad Libs distance learning experience through the New York State Distance Learning Consortium.
As part of their ELA lesson, scholars wrote original short stories, with six selected to be transformed into Mad Libs by removing key words and parts of speech. The class was then paired with students from Covert Avenue School in Elmont for a live video collaboration. During the session, scholars took turns asking their partner class for parts of speech to complete their stories, then read the humorous results aloud. The experience also included a Q&A session, giving students the opportunity to learn about each other’s schools, interests and school communities.
