Wyandanch High School graduates final class of warriors

The Wyandanch Memorial High School Class of 2025 celebrated its commencement ceremony on June 27, honoring 127 graduates for their hard work, resilience and achievements throughout their high school careers.
The ceremony began with the processional of graduates, followed by the presentation of colors by the JROTC Color Guard and performances of “The Star-Spangled Banner” and “Lift Every Voice and Sing” by the Wyandanch Warriors Choir.
Principal Paul Sibblies delivered an inspiring welcome address to his students.
“Graduates of the Class of 2025, you are not just any graduating class. You are the last class to graduate as Wyandanch Warriors,” said Sibblies.
“Our mascot is more than that; it represents generations of pride, strength and resilience. It means fighting for what matters and never backing down from a challenge. Our transition to the era of the Wolves does not erase the value of a Warrior. It evolves it, and it begins with the legacy you leave behind.”
Superintendent of Schools Dr. Erik Wright followed with words of encouragement.
“To our Class of 2025: Dream big and believe in yourself. Believe that whatever you want to do, you can do it. Set the bar high,” said Dr. Wright. “Make sure you’re doing something you truly want to do, because you will have to work hard to achieve your goals. Don’t give up on your dreams. Make a difference and give back to your community.”
“Lastly, the Warrior mindset is characterized by resilience, being able to bounce back from setbacks and learn from mistakes. It means discipline, focus and a positive approach to challenges. Your commitment to continuous improvement and attention to detail will take you a long way. Class of 2025, create your roadmap and embrace a well-rounded Warrior spirit.”
“Congratulations, parents. Thank you for taking the time to help these graduates excel. This is a celebration,” said Board of Education President James Crawford. “To our teachers and administrators, thank you for all you’ve done day in and day out for our students and our community. To the Class of 2025: Warrior DNA runs through your veins. You have helped shape our community, and you will always carry the Warrior spirit within you to keep pushing forward, working hard and achieving your goals.”
In her heartfelt address, salutatorian Yeni Leon-Benitez reflected on her journey from a shy, Spanish-speaking student who once feared she wouldn’t fit in to now moving forward with lasting friendships. She also honored the role immigrants play in building the very foundation of society.
Valedictorian Julieth Sarmiento-Vasquez followed with a message to her peers.
“High school wasn’t just about grades and deadlines. It was about the moments, the firsts, the laughter, the awkward presentations,” she said. “Because time only moves forward, we are now closing a chapter. High school will be something we look back on. The relationships we built, the lessons we learned and how much we grew as people.”
She concluded by thanking her mother for the sacrifices and strength that helped ensure a better future.
The presentation of diplomas was conducted by guidance counselors Tiffany Kee, Dexter Ward and Jasmine Yates. As the final diploma was awarded, Principal Sibblies asked the class to stand and flip the tassels on their caps from right to left.
