Wyandanch ENL students visit Cold Spring Harbor Fish Hatchery and Aquarium

The fourth grade English as a New Language (ENL) students, accompanied by their teachers Mrs. Baldini, Mrs. Vasaturo, Ms. Saravia and Mr. Barrett, recently took an exciting field trip to the Cold Spring Harbor Fish Hatchery and Aquarium. This immersive experience allowed students to explore the fascinating world of aquatic life and deepen their understanding of how animals thrive in their natural habitats.
Throughout the visit, students had the opportunity to observe a variety of creatures, including different species of fish, turtles, frogs and salamanders. Educators at the Hatchery guided the students through interactive exhibits, highlighting the unique characteristics of each animal.
A primary focus of the trip was to help students identify and describe specific adaptations of aquatic animals. They learned how features like fins, gills, streamlined bodies and webbed feet are crucial for survival in water environments. The experience provided a hands-on and engaging way for English language learners to develop their scientific vocabulary and understanding of ecological principles.
