Wyandanch scholars celebrate Women’s History Month

Martin L. King, Jr. Elementary School ended March with a two-day celebration that included an assembly and an interactive wax museum in honor of Women's History Month. Both events showcased the talents of the scholars as they highlighted the achievements of influential women throughout history.

The Women’s History Month assembly paid tribute to cultural female artists Ella Fitzgerald, Dolly Parton, Taylor Swift, Whitney Houston and more through vocal performances, dance routines and readings.

The concert also recognized women within the Wyandanch School District including Interim Superintendent of Schools, Mrs. Arlise Carson, Assistant to the Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction Mrs. Shamika Simpson, Board of Education Trustee Ms. Shirley Baker and School Principal Dr. Monique Habersham.

The following day, fifth grade female scholars brought to life the inspiring stories of influential women throughout history including Katherine Johnson, Simone Biles, Alicia Keys, Misty Copeland and Maya Angelou.

As scholars walked through the school’s gymnasium, they interacted with the living wax figures and learned more about the diligent research and creativity of their fellow scholars who prepared speeches, accomplishments and pivotal moments from women throughout history.
Martin L. King, Jr. Elementary School is proud to honor the contributions of women to the scholars and the world.
