Milton L. Olive Middle School scholar wins schoolwide essay contest

Milton L. Olive Middle School sixth grade scholar Yarcely Zavala was named the winner of the school’s essay contest in recognition of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

Yarcely was chosen from among more than 50 scholars who participated in the competition based on her essay that outlined what her dream for the world is.

“I have a dream that people improve on their actions and what they say,” she explained in her essay. “I have a dream that adults teach children to be respectful and not treat others differently for what they wear, how they talk or look, or what their parents look like. I have a dream that people start treating everyone right and not wrong. I have a dream that this world changes.”

As the winner of the essay contest, Yarcely was given the opportunity to have a pizza party lunch with district administrators, including Milton L. Olive Middle School Acting Principal Mr. Stanley Pelech and Director of Curriculum and Instruction Dr. Lydia Williams.
