Four Wyandanch Memorial High School scholars were high achievers in this year’s NAACP’s Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technical and Scientific Olympics. ACT-SO includes 29 competitions in STEM, humanities, business, performing, visual and culinary arts.

Congratulations to the following scholars on their award-wining achievements: Jayden Desouza earned gold in the STEM/Engineering category and earned the distinction of moving on to compete in the national competition in Boston; Efue Siaka-Bamidele earned silver in the Vocal Performance category; Janiya Bryan earned silver in the Poetry Performance category and Lorica Michel earned silver in the Oratory Performance category. All three scholars were invited to attend the national competition to participate in performance specific workshops.

“We are so proud of these outstanding scholars and their exceptional achievements,” Superintendent of Schools Dr. Gina Talbert said. “They are role models for our scholars and their hard work and commitment to succeed is commendable.”

The NAACP’s Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics is a yearlong achievement program developed to recruit, stimulate and encourage high academic and cultural achievement among African American high school students.
