Outstanding science scholars recognized by Board of Education

Four Wyandanch Memorial High School outstanding scholars were recognized by the Board of Education during the April 19 meeting for their participation in the Long Island Regional Science Bowl at Brookhaven National Laboratory.

Senior Angel Campos, junior Carlos Diaz Sanchez and sophomores Ashly Polanco and Valeria Romero, under the direction of their adviser Dr. Karl Spielmann, were selected to participate in the competition based upon their academic performance and competitive skills.

“We are so proud to acknowledge the participation of the four scholars who competed in the science bowl,” said Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Gina Talbert. “They are vanguards for our district, and we encourage them to continue to be the premier scholars they are. This is not an easy competition, and we thank them for representing Wyandanch School District.”

The U.S Department of Energy National Science Bowl is a nationwide academic competition that challenges and tests students’ knowledge in all areas of science and mathematics. As part of the district’s more comprehensive E3 Program (Explore, Experience, Excel) developed by Dr. Spielmann, scholars can compete in several STEM competitions throughout the year.
