The Milton L. Olive Middle School football team was recognized for their undefeated 6-0 season by the Wyandanch Union Free School District Board of Education with a banner ceremony at the Jan. 11 board of education meeting.
“To our scholar-athletes, you are the vanguards of our athletic program, and you are leading the way for everyone that comes after you,” said Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Gina Talbert. “This evening signifies how important your dedication and commitment on and off the football field means to everyone in the Wyandanch Union Free School District.”
The football team, which started out with 10 players at the beginning of the season, grew to a 28-member team of dedicated scholar-athletes who were celebrated for their perseverance and commitment leading them to a successful undefeated football season.
“Thanks to your enthusiasm and the diligence of your coaches, Dwight Hines and John Watson, we are here tonight acknowledging all you have achieved,” said Director of Health, Physical Education and Athletics, Mr. Steven Davis. “You should all be extremely proud of your winning season!”
In addition to the banner that will hang in the Milton L. Olive Middle School gymnasium, the football team was recognized by New York State Assemblywoman Kimberly Jean-Pierre, Suffolk County Legislature Jason Richberg and Town of Babylon Councilmen DuWayne Gregory, Antonio Martinez, and Terence McSweeney.
