The seventh and eighth graders at Milton L. Olive Middle School, in the Wyandanch Union Free School District, were given the gift of literacy as the Book Fairies donated hundreds of books to the school for scholars to take home to enjoy and share with their families. Throughout the school day, they were welcomed into the multipurpose room to select their free books from a variety of choices including graphic novels, classic tales and nonfiction books. All the books were donated to the school by the Book Fairies, a nonprofit organization that promotes literacy.
“Our scholars can take as many books as they would like,” said instructional coach Kristin Achtziger. “I will never discourage them from reading. Whether they want one book or four books they are welcome to select them and bring them home. Reading opens up a world of learning and we want them to be excited about books.”
