The Wyandanch Union Free School District thanked the district’s board of education for their dedication and commitment at the Oct. 19 board of education meeting in honor of School Board Recognition Week.
In addition to receiving a certification of appreciation from the district’s partner Western Suffolk BOCES and The New York State School Boards Association, the five board trustees also received a tote bag full of personalized gifts from the district’s three schools including a coffee mug, laptop sleeve and a plaque.
“We have an outstanding group of trustees who volunteer their time, spend countless hours preparing for meetings, attending events and serving as stewards for our scholars’ education,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Gina Talbert. “The district appreciates all they have done and continue to do for our schools, and we commend them for their dedication.”
After the board trustees received their gifts, they were treated to a performance by the Lafrancis Hardiman Elementary School bucket drummers who performed “We would like to Thank You,” a song they rewrote to the tune of “We will Rock You,” by Queen.
The New York State School Boards Association recognizes School Board Recognition Week as a time to promote awareness and understanding of the critical work performed by local school boards.
