Wyandanch JROTC wins big at Commander’s Cup
The Wyandanch Memorial High School JROTC sent a team of dedicated cadets to participate in this year’s Commander’s Cup Challenge held at Hempstead High School.
Cold winds, freezing rain and hail did not slow the cadets down. The day-long intense fitness competition pushed the cadets to their limits. as they competed in numerous physical challenges which were designed to mirror the U.S. Army’s comprehensive fitness test.
With four team challenges and four individual challenges, the Wyandanch JROTC Commander’s Cup team won five total challenges.
“The cadet team has worked incredibly hard and was extremely proud to represent Wyandanch at the Commander’s Cup,” said Lt. Colonel Jeffrey Zanelotti, JROTC instructor.
After a physically demanding competition, the JROTC team is excited about their success at the Commander’s Cup Challenge and looking forward to training and exceeding expectations at next year’s event.
Team trophies were awarded for the following events: Push-ups (female team), Power Throw (female team), and Power Throw (male team). Additionally, cadet Monica Blanco earned the top score in push-ups and cadet Justin Henry earned the top score in the Spring-Drag-Carry event.
