Dear Wyandanch Community,
Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year!
Wyandanch Schools is committed to ensuring that our students receive the best possible educational experiences. Teachers in Wyandanch plan every day for students to achieve their best, work in a collaborative environment and reflect upon their own strengths and challenges. Our goal is to prepare them for life beyond our hallways.
As acting superintendent, listening is the most important thing I need to do. Listening will help me learn more about our work ahead.
As I begin my listening and learning tours throughout the schools and community, I will be floating the idea of constructing the profile of a Wyandanch graduate that clarifies the 21st-century skills that students should demonstrate beyond disciplinary content. One way to think about this is to ask, “What competencies do we want every graduate to have when they graduate from high school?” Furthermore...
- Do we have a shared understanding of the essential skills that students need for 21st-century life and work?
- Is our district intentional and purposeful about developing our students’ capacities to demonstrate these skills?
- Upon graduation, are all students ready for the future?
This calendar is a guide to school events, and Board of Education and Parent-Teacher Association meetings held throughout the year. My wish is that you refer to it periodically as a resource about the district and important dates. The school district website will be regularly updated with additional information and events. This year the district will begin transitioning to paperless as much as possible; please utilize the website and the calendar posted there as a resource. Parents and teachers as learning partners are the keys to success for all.
